Use cauliflower as a healthier substitute for rice

Rice-based dishes come in all varieties and the grain makes a good, filling complement to any meal. The calories that can come with eating rice, however, can be less than ideal.

Cauliflower can be thrown in a blender or food processor and shredded to rice size, then sautéed in your cooking oil of choice until it’s cooked thoroughly. Just like that, you’ve got a rice substitute.

Here are the details on how to substitute rice with cauliflower:

1. Cut the cauliflower into large-size florets.

2. Use a grater, blender or food processor to get your cauliflower into small rice-sized pieces.

3. Sauté over medium heat using your favorite cooking oil until the cauliflower “rice” reaches your preferred texture. Cook for about 8 minutes or so.

4. Once your cauliflower “rice” is cooked to your preference, you can season it and use it in dishes just like you would regular rice. Add it to your favorite stir fry in place of rice or mix it with your favorite seasonings.
