Celadon opens training academy for aspiring flatbedders

Celadon Trucking, which is located in Indianapolis, announced the opening of the Celadon Flatbed Academy (CFA) recently.

Lead trainer Terry Berkshire explains proper strap rolling and proper strap throwing to two students at Celadon’s Flatbed Driving Academy.

The academy provides an intensive training course to teach eligible CDL-A drivers everything necessary to begin a career as a flatbed driver. The school is free to all experienced Celadon drivers, who need to contact the CFA trainer attend.  The trainer will verify the driver’s qualifications and schedule the driver into Indianapolis to start the 4-day training curriculum.

Training in the CFA is open to qualified non-Celedon drivers, but with a couple of stipulations, according to Terry Berkshire, lead trainer at the academy. He said if a driver wants the free training, they will first need to be qualified and sign a contract to drive for Celadon for six months.  If they don’t wish to sign on with Celadon, the cost of the academy is $995.

“Our extensive training program will give drivers the ultimate foundation to safely and securely haul flatbed loads,” said Marc Yovanovich, director of Flatbed Operations at Celadon. “Our program provides one of the highest standards of training in the trucking industry; we teach to a level beyond the DOT standard.”
