Eat this, Not that: Blimpie
September 25, 2010
| by: Truckers News Staff
Blimpie’s deli line-up offers an obvious alternative to greasy fast food meals. That’s not to say the sandwich eatery doesn’t know how to pack an unhealthy wallop of its own. It does, however, offer a few alternatives to a foot-long stacked with cheese and condiments.
Eat this: Southwestern wrap
Not that: 12-in. Chicken Cheddar Bacon Ranch
Calories and fat: The foot-long Chicken Cheddar Bacon Ranch has 1190 calories and 58g of fat. The Southwestern wrap has 530 calories and 22g of fat.
Difference: The Chicken Cheddar Bacon Ranch sandwich has almost as many calories from fat (520) as the wrap has total (530). The sandwich also has nearly three times the amount of fat, twice the amount of sodium (3,140mg to 1,770mg), three times the amount of cholesterol (175g to 55g), more sugar and less fiber.
Though the Chicken Cheddar Bacon Ranch sandwich does have a little bit more protein, the near only positive is outweighed by a plate load of negatives. Next time you find yourself in a Blimpie, spring for the wrap.
