Fleet Profile: Crete earns carrier of the year awards

The Crete Carrier Corporation, headquartered in Lincoln, Neb., recently received Carrier of the Year awards form Kimberly-Clark and Wal-Mart. Shaffer Trucking, a sister company under the Crete Carrier Corporation umbrella, was awarded the Premier Carrier of the Year by Tyson Foods.

Crete was also awarded Wal-Mart’s General Merchandise Transportation Carrier of the Year for 2014.

Tonn Ostergard, president and CEO of Crete Carrier Corporation, said that the award is “a true honor for our team.”

Shaffer Trucking received the 2014 Tyson Foods Premier Carrier of the Year for the second year in a row. The company was recognized for the award based on their commitment to excellence in customer service, communication, safety, innovation, and “being a strong environmental steward.”

The Crete Carrier Corporation was founded in 1966 and has since grown into one of the largest privately owned trucking companies in the U.S. and is ranked #26 in the CCJ Top 250 trucking companies. In partnership with two sister companies, Shaffer Trucking and Hunt Transportation, Crete Carrier Corporation provides dry van, temperature-sensitive and flatbed transportation.

  • Top Pay Certified
  • Company Driver Pay:
    • Experienced driver pay rate: $0.45 to $0.48 per practical mile depending on work experience over the last five years
    • Stop-Off Pay: If the load requires multiple stops in addition to the original pick up and the final delivery, drivers will receive stop pay of $30 per stop.
    • Breakdown Pay: The breakdown of truck driver pay of $100 is paid for each 24 hour period following the first 12 hours.
    • Load and Unload Pay: Pallet jack pull-off and related loading and unloading services and extra stops, if any are required, will be paid according to Crete’s current loading/unloading payment schedule.
    • Hazmat Reimbursement: Crete pays its Department of Transportation qualified company drivers the sum of $100 to reimburse them a portion of the cost associated with securing the renewed hazmat endorsement.
    • Guaranteed Detention Pay: Company over-the-road drivers will receive guaranteed detention pay after two hours of wait time.
  • Owner/Operator Pay Packages:
    • Sliding Scale Option – All miles associated with this option are practical route miles:
      • 1-150 miles = $1.57 rate + Fuel Surcharge
      • 151-250 miles = $1.37 rate + Fuel Surcharge
      • 251-700 miles = $1.12 rate + Fuel Surcharge
      • 701-1,200 miles = $1.06 rate + Fuel Surcharge
      • 1,201 and more miles = $0.96 rate + Fuel Surcharge
      • Deadhead miles = $0.86 rate + Fuel Surcharge
      • Qualcomm: Free installation with a $30 per month rental fee. Insurance is $10 per month.
      • Performance Escrow: $750 (in weekly installments of $50 until fully funded)
    • Flat Rate Option – All miles associated with this option are authorized, loaded and empty practical route miles:
      • Weekly home time:
        • 1-500 miles = $1 rate
        • 501-1,200 miles = $0.97 rate
        • 1,201 and more miles = $0.96 rate
      • Biweekly home time:
        • 1-500 miles = $1 rate
        • 501-1,200 miles = $0.97 rate
        • 1,201 and more miles = $0.96 rate
      • Qualcomm: Provided and paid for by Crete Carrier
  • Home time is 21 days or more depending on driver’s home location
  • Personal Time
    • Vacation pay: Drivers receive paid vacation time based on their years-of-service.
      • One year of service equals one week of paid vacation
      • Two years of service equals two weeks of paid vacation
      • 10 years or more of service equals three weeks of paid vacation
    • Military leave
    • Jury duty: Drivers receive up to $100 per day for jury duty
