Garmin offers ELD that pairs with smartphone

R Garmin E Log Hr 1009New from Garmin International Inc. is its eLog compliant ELD, which the company says is an “easy-to-use, hours of service electronic logging device” that does not require a subscription fee.

The device is equipped with an adaptor that supports 9-pin J1939 and 6-pin J1708 diagnostic ports to fit nearly any truck, according to a statement from the company. Truckers can download the free Garmin eLog App to a compatible smartphone; it supports Android and iOS phones.  Once downloaded, data is stored in the driver’s smartphone with the option to share data for inspection purposes. A USB port connection is also built into the hardware to allow for easy inspections and retrievals of any ELD data.

The Garmin eLog is compatible with the Garmin dēzl 570, 770, or dēzlCam trucking navigators

Garmin says the device is expected to be available in the third quarter of 2017 with a suggested retail price of $249.99.
