The American Diabetes Association (ADA) is collecting stories from people with diabetes and their loved ones as part of their new, “This is Diabetes” campaign.

November is American Diabetes Month, and according to the ADA, every 23 seconds someone in the United States is diagnosed with diabetes. Diabetes is known to be especially prevalent among truck drivers.

The ADA is collecting the stories for its “This Is Diabetes” campaign to start a national conversation on what it’s like to live with diabetes.

“Too often, diabetes goes unnoticed in our society, but it’s a health care crisis that needs and deserves all of our attention,” said Kevin Hagan, CEO of the ADA.

The campaign is encouraging people to participate using the hashtag #ThisIsDiabetes on their social posts. Participants can download and personalize a #ThisIsDiabetes photo online to share.

If you aren’t on social media, they also have an option for your to participate directly on the ADA’s site.
