I was unaware you could sauté onions in water or that salt substitutes taste even better than the white stuff I shake from the shaker. Who knew?
Apparently, not enough of us, say Pam Whitfield and Don Jacobson, also known as the Roadcookin’ Gang.
The husband-and-wife team performed their hilarious, informative and possibly lifesaving nutrition show at our booth during the Great West Truck Show in Las Vegas in June, and they’ve planned encore performances for the Great American Trucking Show in Dallas, August 21-23.
Pam is the nutritionist featured each month in Truckers News’ Fit for the Road series of health stories. Don is the author of four health-conscious cookbooks, his “One Pan Gourmet” series. Their entertaining overview of nutrition for truckers offers a common-sense approach to eating healthier.
Truckers participated in a lively discussion about food portions, reading food labels, healthy snacking and making good meal choices at truckstops. Jack Kelsh, Truckers News’ April Health Hero of the Month from Billings, Mont., stopped by to tell his amazing story about how he went from an unhealthy 365 pounds to the athletic, fit, 190-pound person he is today. A drawing was held at the end of the presentation, and lucky truckers won Crock Pots and Burton Stoves to Go.
