‘Miles of Memories’ pays tribute to driver’s friends and family

It’s not unusual to have the name of a loved one — friend or family member — on a truck. Many truckers can be sentimental that way.

Robert Errthum has 11 names on the 2013 Peterbilt 389 he calls “Miles of Memories,” and for good reason.

Errthum says 10 of people whose names are on his dramatically wrapped Pete’ lost their battles with cancer. One other has fought the disease for nine years.

“We’ve been through it all with them,” says the owner/operator from Olin, Iowa.

One of the names on the side of Errthum’s Pete’ is that of Owen Bell, the man who got the truck’s owner into trucking. “He was a driving force in our life,” says Errthum.

He was just 18 when he got his CDL and started hauling grain. Today, Errthum says he hauls “everything from heavy equipment to honey bees.”

He took time out from driving to show his truck at the Walcott Truckers Jamboree at the Iowa 80 Truckstop. It was worth his while as “Miles of Memories” won several awards, including Best Overall Theme.
