Montana suspends some HOS rules because of weather

Harsh winter weather prompted the governor of Montana to suspend hours of service regulations for some truck drivers.

Gov. Steve Bullock announced earlier this week that because of an “energy emergency” HOS rules were suspended for drivers carrying:

  • propane
  • heating oil
  • diesel fuel

The suspension will last for 30 days, expiring Jan. 27.

In his executive order, Bullock said he was suspending the HOS rules because Montanans have faced “continued extremely harsh winter conditions,” which have caused a short term increase demand for heating fuels.
