Heavy-Duty Weather Radio
ASA’s new Jensen JHD1000 Heavy Duty AM/FM Weatherband Stereo is designed with a full 7-channel NOAA Weatherband tuner in addition to AM/FM radio capability. This enables users to stay current on the latest weather conditions. The JHD1000 is also equipped with “World-Tuning,” which allows for worldwide tuning operation.

This durable stereo also features a built-in alarm clock; a four-channel, 120-watt power amplifier; selectable green or amber backlighting; and single button up/down tuning. If the vehicle battery is disconnected, the JHD1000, through Super Cap technology, can maintain presets and the clock for up to 15 days.

The entire front panel is designed with an impervious membrane to prevent dirt from entering the unit through the pushbutton gaps. The front panel also offers an “aux-in” jack that permits the user to listen to personal music from an iPod, MP3 player, portable CD player or any new technology using the radio’s amplifier and speaker system. The unit also features a wide-angle anti-glare LCD panel that can be viewed from below or above, which makes it ideal for mounting either overhead or on the dashboard.

Premium Shell Grease
Shell Lubricants’ new Shell Retinax LX is a family of premium, lithium complex greases made from a combination of performance additives developed primarily for the lubrication of high-temperature applications, such as wheel bearings in heavy-duty truck applications. Shell Retinax LX is replacing Shell Retinax LC to better align with the global grease brands offered by Shell, the company says.

Shell Retinax LX provides excellent EP/load carrying ability, oxidation stability, rust protection and the ability to adhere to metal surfaces and resist water wash-off, the company says. Shell Retinax LX has a distinct red color that makes it easy to identify in field applications. It is particularly effective in wheel bearings subjected to high temperatures and load caused by braking from high speed.

Introduced at the Mid-America Trucking Show: ArvinMeritor Brakes, Suspensions, Hubs
ArvinMeritor introduced the Meritor RideSentry MPA series of trailer air suspensions, featuring advanced cargo and trailer protection, solid roll stability and angled locking pins to help prevent drive-away with pins not engaged.

Also introduced was the Severe Service Q Plus (SSQ Plus) heavy-duty brake system for vehicles that operate in harsh or rugged environments, such as construction, refuse collection, firefighting and off-road service.

The company also introduced a 2.50 ratio for its RS-23-160 single axle series and a wide-based hub for drive and trailer axles.

Heater, Combo Unit
Webasto has updated and improved its Air Top 2000 heater, now called the Air Top 2000 ST.
The new heater, which Webasto calls the lightest in the industry, has a weather-tight seal with improved corrosion resistance and can be mounted externally.

Air flow has been improved by 20 percent. A self-cleaning burner limits wax and carbon build-up, and a new, quieter fan design limits dust build-up. An optional ventilation mode allows air circulation in the cabin.

The Air Top 2000 ST and Webasto’s BlueCool Truck air conditioner now can be purchased as a complete system, called C5 Truck.

Iteris Lane Alarm
Iteris Inc. introduced a new version of its Lane Departure Warning system, which warns drivers when they unintentionally cross lanes.

The system uses a windshield-mounted camera to track lane markings, gauging the relative position of the truck within the lane. If the truck drifts over the lane markings, the device sounds an alarm.

Features of the improved system include allowances for roads that have only a single lane marking or fog line, improved curve tracking for tight turns and volume control. The new device’s sensor also works across a broader range of lighting conditions, including heavy glare.

The device is connected to the truck’s turn signals, allowing a truck to cross lanes intentionally without sounding the alarm. The device also turns off when the truck is traveling at speeds slower than 37 mph.

Vanguard National Trailer
Vanguard National Trailer Corp. introduced a new trailer, the VXP Composite Plate Freight Van.

Composite sidewall panels, which carry a 10-year warranty, sandwich a foamed plastic core between two galvanized steel cover sheets, providing strength and durability against abrasion and damage. Rust-preventative primer and polyester finish coats are baked onto the cover sheets for longevity. The panels are joined by steel posts paired with galvanized internal posts with log slots. Smooth, rounded rivet heads provide a snag-free interior sidewall. Vanguard’s new trailer uses only LED lights, making it legal in both California and Canada.
