Show trucks, and much more in Dallas

Updated Aug 20, 2014

Bill Rethwisch’s “Dreamsicle”won the 2013 Pride & Polish Working Combo championship last year and returns to the Great American Trucking Show this week.

If you’re a fan of custom trucks, there is only one place to be this week: the Great American Trucking Show (GATS) in Dallas.

Between 60 and 80 show trucks will be on display at GATS, which opens Thursday at the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center and runs through Saturday.

Other highlights of the three-day show include 500 exhibits, educational seminars, a chance to meet country star Lee Ann Womack, the finals of the Overdrive Truckers Talent Search and opportunities to talk to company representatives at the Recruiting Pavilion.

Twenty trucks will arrive in Dallas for the finale of Overdrive’s year-long 2014 Price & Polish competition, and four will emerge as champions. The winners will be announced in a ceremony open to the public in the show truck staging area at 11 a.m. Saturday.

But, the official judges aren’t the only ones who have a say. You can vote for your favorite rig in the Trucker’s Choice competition.

There’s an app for GATS

A good way to ensure you see everything at the show – and there is plenty to see – is to get the download the official Great American Trucking Show app on your smartphone or tablet — available for iPhone, iPad and Android. It includes a comprehensive list of exhibitors and a show floor map, and a guide to all of the giveaways, drawings and other free stuff.

The hours for the show are:

  • Thursday noon to 5 p.m.
  • Friday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Saturday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
