(Image Courtesy of NMTA)The National Minority Trucking Association (NMTA) has partnered with NFL and NBA players to launch the Minority Transportation Consortium (MTC). The goal of the new company is to help small and disadvantaged trucking companies compete for freight and contracts.
Several current and former athletes have offered time, support and resources to help form the MTC, including:
- Idrees Bashir, former NFL defensive back
- Roland Bailey, former NFL cornerback
- Boss Bailey, former NFL linebacker
- Marcus Pollard, former NFL tight end
- Thomas Johnson, former NFL defensive tackle
- Charles D. Smith, Jr., former NBA player and U.S. Olympian
MTC, a third party logistics company, will work with minority, women and veteran-owned companies to help them find new opportunities. The company’s qualified carrier partners will receive a portion of its profits.
Kevin Reid, NMTA CEO, brokered the MTC deal.
“One of MTC’s major goals is to develop, educate and train minority freight carriers and logistics companies so they can be highly successful and more efficient,” Reid said. “Having the support of these current and former professional athletes is monumental.”
