RAND00235_TND700Rand McNally today, March 25, announced the launch of the IntelliRoute TND 700, a new truck GPS device with a 7-inch state-of-the-art high-definition screen and enhanced software features.

The company says the new device provides greater mapping detail at each zoom level, a larger viewing screen, additional Trucker Business Tools, enhanced features and 363,000 data updates.

“Rand McNally is committed to providing innovative technology and location-based information to drivers and fleets,” said Dave Muscatel, chief executive officer of Rand McNally. “The IntelliRoute TND 700, with its larger high-definition screen size, will enhance the in-cab navigation experience providing for greater ‘glanceability,’ as well as a quick, thorough understanding of the road ahead.”

Rand McNally says the IntelliRoute TND 700, like the IntelliRoute TND 500 unit launched last year, was developed from the ground up for professional truck drivers. Tested extensively by professional drivers on the road, the IntelliRoute TND 700 unit includes louder-than-normal speakers, custom-designed mounting features such as an oversized suction cup and extra-long cable, and a suite of specialized Trucker Business Tools to assist drivers in managing the business aspects of trucking.

Many of the new and improved features in the IntelliRoute TND 700 were developed as a direct result of driver feedback, according to the company. The IntelliRoute TND 700 includes two new Trucker Business Tools:

• Notepad – Drivers can type out a quick note such as “Call Dock with ETA 15 miles out” or “Good parking availability”;

• Calendar – Drivers can reference the day, week and month with a built-in calendar.

I bought the Rand TND 500 and never looked back. It is a very handy GPS to say the least. But now I have a problem. I called Roadtrucker.com where I originally bought it and they got me all excited about the 700 and I want one. But I just paid $399 for my 500. What’s a guy to do? Why doesn’t Rand have an exchange program? I think they should at least offer a $100 or $200 for anyone who wants to upgrade for the 700. That’s my 2 cents.

  2. Sean Milczewski says:

I agree mike. I have been driving around with a regular four-wheeler GPS (tom-tom) which is better than nothing but it tries it’s best to send me down cow paths and low bridge routes. I definately need a truck version but I have been stalled on which one to buy…now with the 700 out its even harder. Wish I could find out from other drivers how the Cobra’s and Garmin’s are doing. For $500 I don’t want to make a mistake.

Hello all and HAPPY NEW YEAR. I have the Rand Mcally TND 700 and I won’t even consider anything else (I’ve had tom tom and Cobra)I bought mine in April 2010. This 700 is the best, many useful features and easy to do updates, especially if you have a laptop with you. just plug in the unit to your laptop and it will download the TND Dock. One thing… check around for prices I bought mine at a TA in Indiana (outside of Indianapolis on I70)and saved about $100.00…paid 499.00 money well spent/and time saved.

      Take care and Be Safe

  6. jim says:

Well melinda TA has a 10 day money back or 30 day exchange on electronics so why didnt you take it back. i have bought the 700 so far it has been great. going trough change is always hard but im learning to like it alot.alittle slow in catching up in short distances like turn then have to turn again 100 feet

  7. justin goad says:

i have owned the world nav, garmin 255,garmin truck, tnd 500 and now own the tnd 700 ive spent alot of money on gps units. if you want ease of use the garmin truck is the only way to go. I gave it to my 70+yr old grandparents and they with 10-15 min instructions can do 90% of what the gps will do. if you want a gps that does about anything you can think of and then a few more things and arent afraid to experiment then the tnd 700 is for you the stuff it does is just crazy. i could write a book on what it does. and can think of only one thing it doesnt do that the truck garmin does and thats traffic warnings. my former co driver bought a 7 in cobra and took it back within 7 days he was the one that got me to try the tnd 500. hope this helps those thinking about buying one of the gps units

  8. To ny says:

Melinda: which model Garmin do you have?

Justin: Does the TND700 show you the towns you are coming up to, and what the distance is to the next town, or does it only show you the distance to your destination?

  9. David Pierce says:

i got my 500 was going good now it runs you down town 6-10 miles out of your way to a del been getting stuff like routing from oh to tx say no route could be found all kind of crazy stuff grtting to where i have to ck my phone routing before i go now they are telling me the one i have no longer has updates ???? some days i just want to take a hammer and bust it up and ship it back to them

  10. scott carter says:

have had the garmin 250 for 2yrs now still love it but am looking at the new trucker/garmin. I glad you found it a good deal justin. That helps me was told the price is dropping after xmas. Wish you all safe and happy trails.

  11. Michael Assi says:

Does the TND 700 show the name of the street, road or highway that you are on at the present moment? I found that this is helpfull info. when you are routed into turns that are quick and frequently coming into call by your GPS unit.

  12. Larry Helgeson says:

I started with a garmin street pilot, then went to a garmin 465t. it does a great job 97% of the time. Looking for something more. Just wondering if those that have switched to the 700 from a 465t think it was worth the money to switch. I always thought it would be nice if the name of the town you were going through and state lines would show up on the screen. I know the garmin inside and out, know what it will do in most situations, but always looking for something more.

  13. Mike Henricksen says:

@ Larry Helgeson. The TND 700 can be set up to let you know when a weight station, a state Border, or even a toll booth is coming up. You set it, 1 mile, 2 miles etc, when you want it to tell you(example, it will verbally tell you “you are one mile from state line” you can save a POI. It verbally tells you you have a upcoming turn a 1/2 mile 1/4 mile 50 feet until you finally turn as you get closer it continues to remind you it tell you what side of the street your target is on so you have time to make a lane change. You can change it to METRIC if you go to Canada or Mexico. You can set your speed limit alerts, (it will verbally warn you if you exceed the speed limit. It has a onboard drivers log. It has 3 different map views, one of which is 3D (a must use) This is well worth the money. it saves time and some frustration. Hope this bit of Info helps

  14. Melissa Tinsley says:

The first Rand TND 500 we bought first of 2010 didn’t work when we plugged it in either. We took it back and got our money back. Then a few days later at another truck stop we bought another one and it has worked great. We have to plug it in to our laptop to do updates but it’s well worth the money. Makes it hard to see how we got around without it before.

  15. Michael Hewitt says:

I had a WorldNav but took it back after a week. Price of junk. Bought a TND500 and loved it. When the TND700 came out I bought it. Love it. You can set it to show the road/highway you’re currently on, or the road coming up, or the city-county your in. Need to find a truck stop, parking area, scale, place to shop? No problem! It is just full of features. So, who wants to buy my TND500?

  16. Eric Bradley says:

My son got one of the new 700 Randys. He gave it to me to us in the truck I drive over the road. I love it we have had it a few months and now we are having trouble with the plug in on the GPS its self it keeps going off.It does a good job on getting you where you going I just hate its messing up .

    • Darrell Bizzell says:

Had the same problem with mnine. Had to bend the male part to make it fit the female part better. Haven’t had any more problems with it.

  17. Matthew Clark says:

HI, i am new to all the gps models and dont know which one to buy, garmin 465t or rand mcnally 700 i have a pc miller that spends most of its time searching for a signal in chicago or any large city and dont want to buy again without some good truckers advice. so thanks for any help you all can give…

  18. Riley Dunn says:

I have a new, never been out of the box garmin 465t I would like to sell. I bought one over the road. Wife bought me one too. $300 970 270 3556

  19. Billy Bracewell says:

SERIOUSLY guys! Dump the gps’s with thier tiny screens! Nearly everybody has a laptop now. get a stand for it, and go to walmart and get microsoft streets and trips, the latest version with gps reciever (about $50 or so, it’s actualy PC miler in disgiuse).Very detailed and 3D. and you can put in note flags, locations AND plot and save all trips for tax purposes. It’s not truck specific, But it hasn’t failed me yet. and you can tell the difference in road types so you don’t route yourself the wrong way. Take a minute and set up your trip, then just follow the little red arrow. Did I mention it also tells direction and speed?

  20. Randy Wells says:

Whats wrong with going back to old stile driving an using a map an planning your own route i’ve tryed couple thse gps deals an i never really liked them

  21. Gene Pendergraft says:

We can all agree on one thing………ALL GPS devices are not the same and not perfect. A lot of it depends on the driver’s needs as much as the device. While traveling with my new Magellan, my co-driver had a Garmin. Just for laughs, we put them side by side. As we came to an intersection, one said go left while the other said go right. We found the Magellan more accurate, but none of the devices are perfect. These devices help, but we are professional drivers, open your eyes and watch the signs and for hazards. The roads we travel change so much, no GPS could ever be updated enough.
