Dave Redmon fired from one IRT show, quits other
September 28, 2011
| by: James Jaillet
Ice Road Trucker Dave Redmon said in an interview with Truckers News that the show’s production crew fabricates scenes in the series and “went out of their way” to make him look bad. “They really, really spent a lot of effort making me look terrible in Alaska,” Redmon says. “The stuff you see on TV is totally so far from the truth it’s just unreal.”
Redmon said in the interview his perceived firing from the show in the Sunday, Sept. 18 episode “Judgment Day,” was scripted. “I know it doesn’t look that way on TV, obviously,” Redmon said. “They had scripted me to be the bad guy on the show, and it just scripted me to get fired.”
When asked for comment, the History Channel said in an email: “Dave Redmon was part of the production for two years. We wish him well in his future endeavors.”
The Riverside, Ala., native said the show cited his perceived inability to be a “team player” as its justification. “My so-called attitude and not getting along with everybody [was why]. I was doing my job and I was doing it safely, I just didn’t get along with everybody.”
Redmon said the History Channel, which produces the show, sent him a cease-and-desist letter after he posted some of his issues with the show on Facebook. When episodes aired, he says he would post on Facebook to “try to put things a little bit in perspective.”
“They put lies and stuff on there about the things I do,” he said. “If there’s a totally fabricated scene, I will put the truth on Facebook so everybody can see it.”

I am really going to miss dave and rick
I also like lisa
I think it was unfair the way dave was treated by tony
good luck to you both
Good riddance…This is part of the problem with trucking..It wasn’t me. I was framed..When you are in extreme weather..You either work as part of a team..or you can die. Period. It is apparent that mr. Redmond does what he wants, when he wants and where he wants..Best of luck to you sir..I am glad that you are gone..as it was getting to the point that I was not going to watch IRT or anything else that you happened to be in because of your Me..Me..Me attitude…I do hope that you find work here in the lower 48..where you don’t have to worry about being a team player..Because you aren’t one.
Jeff, Your either dumber than a box of rocks or you believe that hocus pocus on IRT. That show was put together to entertain and to make it exciting enough for you to want to return for the next episode. It evidently worked on you.
Anyone that has driven a truck, for more than 6 months ado at least one winter should be able to see that a lot of what they do is scripted and a unsafe. The producers have to make the show exciting and they did at the risk of peoples safety.
Blaming Dave for some of the stuff is like blaming Ford motor company for snow in the winter. Most of you posters have never driven over size in heavy snow, let alone mountains and one lane roads and more than likely never been a real truck driver. I don’t understand how someone could sit through one episode, let alone several.
Dave was not thinking about the long term. Now he wont be back next year, but i like watching him
Thank God he is gone. Poorest attitude I have ever seen. There is a reason policies are put in place. At the end of the day they really didn’t care about how much he produce because you can train someone with less experience (Maya) to do the same job. Aside form maya there are plenty of truck drivers in the world who with some training could do the job just as well.
Did any of you guys actually read the article you are leaving comments about? Don’t be sheep.
The whole “whining Dave” thing was all trumped up by the editors of the show for the History Channel and gave a completely false view of what he is like,…to the point that there may be lawsuits over it. I work in TV and it doesn’t surprise me a bit,..it is too bad that Dave had to learn the hard way how the TV industry (particularly “Reality TV” which is anything but “real”) can destroy a person in the public eye for the sake of getting ratings.
All the complaining that Dave did could have occured in just a couple conversations over a period of two days,…then recorded,..edited,…and inserted into the show throughout the entire season to make it seem like it went on and on and on. How many times did you see them repeat Dave turning off the CB while saying “Sssshut uuupppp!”? How do we even know he was talking to Phil in the other truck? You don’t. He could have been listening to two other drivers on the raod brag about the girlfriends until he got tired of hearing it and turned off the radio (I’ve done that myself several times).
Everything was scripted,…right down to the “fireing” of Dave,…all planned and scripted ahead of time.
That probably is right on the money, they have more phony stuff going on than a real driver could even imagine.
Thanks , the guy i was listening to at the time i turned the radio of was in fact rambling about his vacation down south and was a lengthily one, we were trying to talk to the production car when i said sut up….and it was weeks befor i was with Phil , your comment was right on!!
FWIW, I know Dave in passing, we have hauled O/D loads for some of the same customers, and the Dave being shown on TV is NOT the Dave you meet in real life.
THAT HOLLYWOOD FOR YA
I enjoyed Dave on IRT he wanted to work. I have not seen any other season where they made you convoy. Having to convoy with Tony and Maya would have been torture. The smartest thing maya said was thats crazy…..GIVE ME A BREAK..
Scripted of not, it was Dave who for whatever reason bitched, wined, and complained about everything, while Lisa and TNT kept on working.
Worry not Dave, the real truck drivers already know which parts of the show is phony, they actually make me laugh at times.
I liked Dave on the show he only wanted to work. And to have to sit around and wait for a guy Tony would piss me off to.He showed he could do the Job and handle the road and the weather. So a guy like Tony felt threatend.
You mean to tell me that Ice Road Trucker is not a comedy sitcom??
for those of you that think the show portrayed dave redmon as a whiner, got to youtube and look at his videos. whine whine whine. in some he films himself driving down the road blaming Mercer tansportation for causing his truck to be repo’ed. as a mercer operator if you dont make money here it is your own fault. dave redmon is a dumbass. lol, would be good if truckers news would background this guys before they protray them as heroes.
“The whole “whining Dave” thing was all trumped up …” so said ‘whining Dave’. LOL! Sure, some of the stuff on the show is staged, but I think Dave’s true attitude/personality was obvious. Whining Dave is a typical Alabama ‘stick hauler’.
Whether scripted, framed or reality, the fact is that the attitude as portrayed on the show gave all of us a black eye. Too many motorists see too many truckers as ‘angry bullies.’ IRT, whether by design or out of ignorance while seeking ratings, hurt the industry. We should all boycott the show.
Dave was the best driver and some of the other ice road truckers were jealous of him. So he got fired. This happens everywhere. I thought that in truck driving getting the job done is more important than ass kissing so I was diappointed to see it happen in Alaska.
i run the up there in the winter. dave got thrown under the bus by tony ( wantabe jack jeese ) who wanted to get with that dumb chick and phil ( to scared to talk to women) that wanted to get with the same chick. it’s like a soap opera in a kenworth around there.
I think IRT was real on season 1.But they had to move every season to a new location because the companies they served didnt like the exposure.
the first time he had ever had green juice is like mowed lawn, he is exactly right, as nitoght i am having my first all green juice and that is a perfect description of it. i got 875 cc (or 29.6 ounces) from a bunch of turnip greens, a bunch of spinach, 20 brussels sprouts, 2 green bell peppers, a bunch of asparagus, and a bunch of parsley. i added 3 ice cubes to give it a cooler edge to it tastes a bit like lawn tea LOL
by some of these comments you can tell the truckers from the wannabes! We’ve got your back, dave! 10 4.
You don’t make money sitting around waiting. Obviously dave didn’t want to sit around. I don’t like driving with others so I guess I wouldn’t be a team player either. the other guy that didn’t sit around and hauled %%% got kicked out of carslisle also. “Hugh” Dave’s the true driver and the others that kissup are in la la land.
first of all in mix of world we live in.doing you job is not a enough, lot of time it personer.i had a f** for a dispatch at total transport,he get mad when ask him to use the drtiver tech, than my min,i know that old game the he save the company the bigger his bonus is.it is not about being a professional driver no more.they want blood frome you.
never did support irt.we have live in america.we need our own show.expose the corruption in the industry.
Although I have not seen any new shows for over 2 years, I fully Understand Dave’s Statement and Position…And It is ( And was ) So easy to See…Simply Put Yourself In the Place of the Camera man…Wasn’t it Interesting this Truck nearly ran off the road….with the Camera RIGHT THERE!! The Slipping Truck Up the Hills Sliding Slightly Backward…and the Camera RIGHT OUTSIDE THE TRUCK FILMING IT?..Come On People…It’s A SCRIPTED show!
Scripted or not, Dave always went out of his way to do whatever he wanted to do, even when the boss ordred him to “team run”. Guys him give the rest of us a bad name
Mike, How the hell does Dave give the rest of us a bad name.? Were you on the show? No your weren’t, You believe that hokey stuff and think it is the real world. What part of scripted do you steering wheel and wanna be steering wheel holders not understand?
Scripted. That is another TV word for make believe, Make it exciting. Trucking a boring and we need ratings. Every show needs a good guy and a bad guy. Sheesh.
He was a cry baby
The mentality Dave has it what is more and more expected from a driver in any company. Most companies demand it done a certain way in such and such of time(safely). When you drive convoy you really are left to drive according to the one in front of you. What you cannot control is the heavy coming down the 6 degree behind you that can’t slow to the speed that the convoy is going in front of them let alone try it on ice. So I guess I would be pissed to if someone else was not moving quick enough for me to feel safe with the amount of weight we all are pulling. So I believe Dave was in the right 99% of the time. I also believe that the “hot chick” gets a better chance at any company. Go up to northern Ontario Canada by Marathon, try to run a convoy through the hills there with a single 120,000LB heavy breathing down ur back side @ 70mph when he hits the bottom and tell me you don’t want to be in control of your own fate instead of the “hot chick” rookie not watching everything around her.
This crap is the same a Shipping Wars. Nothing but BS.
They call the drivers shippers. How stupid. Same kind of crap on IRT. Producers have no clue as to the real world so they make up stuff so they think it is rating building. Based on the dumb ass comments here it worked.
Do your job smart and safe it is not exciting if done right. As far a convoying. Only a real dumb ass would do it the way they show it on IRT.
EXCITING is what they were looking for and you bought it.
Go the the producers web site and do some research. They will not answer E-mails. I offered for the producer to go with truckers in the real world. No takers. Not exciting enough.
