Redmon discusses ‘Ice Road Truckers’
June 3, 2011
| by: James Jaillet
The season premier of the History Channel’s latest Ice Road Truckers installment aired Sunday, June 5. This season follows seven drivers along dangerous roads in Canada – in Manitoba – and in Alaska, along the Dalton Highway.
David Redmon, a heavy-hauler from Riverside, Ala., discussed the show and his experiences on the Ice Road with Truckers News. This is Redmon’s second season on the IRT series. He joined the show last year for the History Channel’s spin-off show IRT Deadliest Roads when he and several other IRT drivers took on treacherous roadways through the Himalayan Mountains.
This season, Redmon was one of the four drivers to take on the Dalton Highway in Alaska.
Here’s part of the interview:
Truckers News: What are some of the major differences between driving on a paved highway and driving on the Dalton?
Redmon: The difference between driving in Alaska on the Daltons and driving in the lower 48 is, up there, you literally can’t take your eyes off of the road for even a split second. A caribou could walk out in front of you, or a moose. The roads are so narrow that you can’t see what has been over plowed and under plowed, meaning, did the guy who plowed it go far enough out? Did he leave me enough road to drive on? Or did he go too far out, and what I’m seeing that looks safe is actually a ditch?
Down here you get relaxed and you get complacent. You drive on an Interstate highway for hundreds of miles, and you’re just following the guy in front of you. Up there you’re just driving on a sheet of ice for 526 miles, and they emphasize in the show to stay in your line, because if you top a hill – and there’s lots of them – someone could be coming right at you.

Dave is one of the few real truck drivers on IRT. They held him at bay for several days and he STILL got more loads than most of them. Dave Rocks. Tony sucks.
OMG I have never read such crap. Dave is disreapectful and a huge whiner. After what I saw what he did to Lisa in India I know he deserves absolutely no respect from anyone. No one with any bit of class would leave her alone in India. He should be so ashamed of himself, it just showed what a coward he truly is. I am so delighted the whiner is finally gone cause, as an Alaskan I had a tough time watching the show with him on it.
The problem with Dave is he thinks he’s the only one who faces death on a daily basis, he thinks he’s the only one who has to deal with broken down trucks and bad equipment and instead of taking constructive criticism, he acts like he owns the truck but I have news for him, he is someone else’s employee and as such he needs to do as he is told because I don’t have to live in Alaska to tell you that if a worker were to leave one of MY trucks or pieces of equipment out in the middle of nowhere they would only do that because they had no plans on ever working for me again, and on that note I sure would not give them a good recommendation either.
Read: If you drive for me you NEVER abandon a truck!
Personally I wouldn’t hire Dave, not after seeing what he did in front of national television, who does he think he’s kidding?
left alone lol who was running the camera’s
Dave is a man with gut and dont take any shit from no one. It is a tv show and you have to have heros! Good job Dave!!!
For what its worth, you didn’t stand a chance. I think Tony was and is an “ass” kissed”.
Dave, bottom line: of all the drivers on IRT, if I wanted to be certain that I would make it to the end of the line, then I would need to hitch a ride in your rig. Keep on trucking!
Dave was fired so Lisa would win. Social Justice.
I’m glad Lisa won the load count to get even with Dave for leaving her on the side of the road in India. What if something happened to her. How would he explain that to her family?
I am so glad Lisa won the load count! That should teach him a lesson. That was so wrong leaving Lisa alone on the side of the road in India. What if something happened to her. How would he explain that to her family?
If something happened to Lisa Kelly i guess the camera crew could have filmed what happened. couldn’t they?
Go to youtube, look up Extreme Trucker Dave & there you will find all your answers.
It is a tv show people. They can only run up and down those roads so many times until people lose interest unless they add some drama. This is the role he was asked to play this season. Don’t believe everything they show. Lisa for sure was not abandoned in India.
Dave was a nice guy on the India show and no doubt is in real life.
I love Dave. I was so ticked when they said he passesd Maya and almost hit another vehicle-I watched it and they lied. I can’t stand Tony. I would not trust him. Maya gets on my nerves.

I’d ride with Dave any day of the week. I’m from a family of truckers though I don’t drive myself. The comments from those against Dave are naive. The film is surely edited to make someone the bad guy so why not make it someone from down south. I hope Tony’s bit is scripted too otherwise he’s defiantly a D**K. I only regret he wasn’t given a chance to redeem himself in “Death Road”. I imagine Rick Yemm caught flak for some reason and hope Hugh and Lisa make it out okay. It’s a little hard to believe the two new rookies are to sweep this series. If they do maybe the HIST will let me drive in the next one with Jeremy Clarkson as my co-driver. That’ll be one worth watching
I’m a retired trucker, 40+ years ‘over-the-road’.. I gotta take my hat off to all the truckers that drove, and still drive, these Canadian Ice roads, the Alaska Ice roads, Himalaya, India, Chile, Boliva, etc.. You folks sure have my support and Blessings.. You “drivers” gotta’ look out for yourself and each other — the TV people don’t give a damn about what happens to you.. Do you really think they care, or suffer, because you lose a job or get tossed off a mountain road; I very much doubt it.. They’ll just get their next ‘star’ from the ‘Green Room’ and continue going to the bank with their paychecks..
To all the drivers, Good Luck and May God Bless !!
Glenn
If I can put in my two cents worth…and by the way, I am a driver and have been since 1974, there are two drivers on IRT that get my vote! Alex and Lisa. Most of the others think they know everything about everything and have all the answers to all the worlds problems and how to fix all the worlds problems. If they are so smart then why are they on the business end of a steering wheel instead of running a multi-million dollar company? Just show me what it takes to do the job safely without all the drama and foul language. If you aren’t smart enough to speak one sentance without using a cuss word then keep your thoughts to yourself. Out of the millions of drivers in North America, very few act and speak like most of them on IRT. It would be nice just to go one segment without any “bleeps”. Dave started out kinda all right but the “show business” got to him and now he thinks he is the only driver in the lower 48 that knows how to drive on snow and ice and has the big mouth to prove it. If all you are going to do is complain and cuss then go back home and get off the TV. I can hear all that I want anytime day or night by just turning on my CB to channel 19. Alex and Lisa get the job done without all the drama and foul language! Good drivers get the job done and don’t have to be cuddled like a 2 year old. I don’t envy those that have to drive in those conditions but that is the choice they made. If they don’t like it they can drive regional in the Southeast U.S. IRT is interesting enough without all the drama and foul language!
i have never seen anyone like Dave. He is rude, arrogant and all i could think of was…what a Dick. I believe in karma, and what goes around come around Dave. It not a place to be a jackass. We are so sick of your bithcing…maybe you should just go home if you are so good at your job and give us a break. For a man he sure bitches a lot.
I think Dave is a big Pussy’ I drove the Dalton before it was the Dalton it was the Ice Road’the road ended at the Yukon River we cross on the ice then a ice road as built to the beach as we called it’they had to pull us up Chandler with a cat and let us down with a cat ‘ the ice cut was so steep we would run at it as hard as we could they had 2 graders up the hill tat would pick us up and push us over. Dave is a quiter if we brok down we had to find a way to fix it or catch a truck out and get parts an go get it.

What planet are some of you on? when did i leave lisa anywhere ? you must be thinking of “We all Stick together tony” leaving me in cold foot ..if your talking about lisa hauling the last load? that was set up in advance by production the day before that she would haul the Drums of water OPPS! the cats outa the bag now ..thats right they were water 15empty and 3 filled and leaking all over the place, Please people it a REALITY TV show..
i do not know you, i do not like to pass judgement it is soposed to be a reality show, if it is scriped then it is not, it is HOLLYWOOD they don’t like to let thing happen as they happen. ” LIFE IS NOT A SCRIPT” so stop treating reality show like it is real life, it is not
Dave,I like you alot on IRT SHOW and too bad you got the SHAFT!You tell it like it is,you are out there to work and not to babysitting others too lazy and still got the job done and safely. And got the only back hual back and PISSED them off so whatr!Tony is a jerkoff and it even pissed LISA off to when he rook his sweet time leaving for that heavyhaul run!KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK AND ADDITUDE,one of the BEST!
Dave I thought you got the smelly end of the stick when it came to IRT. A show is a show!! on the other hand Tony is a C**K. I enjoyed the banter and the stories. Keep on trucking from a fellow trucker from Ireland.
Believe it or not, we have all been Dave Redmon at some point in our lives. And anyone on earth can relate!
I actually was rooting for Dave Redmon I had enough of seeing The Ass licking tony loving maya siber. In some places making up stories could be eligible for a libel suit. Hey he’s out there to work not to kiss up.
Dave redmon, you rock!!! Great driver.you were treated poorly I feel sorry for you
I also love Lisa,Alex, rick and polar bear
However i have no time what so ever for ass kissing rookie Maya including Tony there both up each others backsides I don’t want to see those two in the next series ANNOYING.
television or not when dave made a choice and why that was his choice. As far as leaving Lisa on the side of the road. Wonder how anyone knew what he done. Wasn’t there a camara crew. That isn’t alone that is a movie or television show. Not reality. Start showing what happens here. You want a borring show how about showing what happens at the AG warehouse in Springfield MO. Heck they could film that real eassy. Take a picture of the trucker going to bed a 6am and then show the reciever come out and wake the driver up eight hours later. Now that isn’t a movie it is a fact. Facts are boring.
too old to take it on now(71)but if I could I would need Dave Redmon to show me the roaps for a while. Last episode of IRT next Friday 23/12/11 (12/23/11) Myjob? was bodywork on HGVs.
I am a fan of Dave I have beena truck driver for 28 years this month with 2 million miles under my belt and in my professional opinion Dave is the real deal. Yes he wines and complains what trucker don’t . I can see he was edited to look bad. Dave the REAL truckers know you are the only REAL trucker on the show.

Only watched the first season to see what Lisa was up to. Clearly this gal knew what she was doing,on the ball. When they went to India, all three held my interest, but Dave was the one that got my vote. This guy’s a professional, 25 years experience. He’s the one I want working for me; in India OR “THE DALTON” SO where does this “Rookie” crap come from? Oh wait, don’t tell me; that little piss ant “TONY” I admire Dave’s restraint. After an hour in the cab with “TONY” I would have throttled him.How about for next year we let Dave drive, and “TONY” and “MAYA” can open a Bed and Breakfast….maybe with a trucker theme.I’m sure they’d be very happy.
I’m in Australia, and I just love Ice Road Truckers! its bought a new respect for drivers worldwide. Go LISA!!!
Dave reminds me of a union factory worker. PISS AND MOAN!!!!
i am from Pakistan and a student of civil engineering… IRT deadliest trucker is my and other family person’s best program and i watch it every day,,,,, i like Tim and tee-nu too much they are my best drivers and hope for their winnig,,,
I have worked all over the world including South America as a driver mechanic for the oil industry, and I can not watch the Andes series as Dave does not have a clue about what he is talking about or doing and Hugh well he is another special unit. Lisa is better without Dave. As Mark said PISS and MOAN!!!!
