Those are the days of this year’s International Roadcheck safety inspection blitz of trucks and buses on North American highways.
10,000 inspectors will be checking vehicles in JuneDuring the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance’s (CVSA) 28th annual International Roadcheck, about 10,000 local, state, provincial and federal inspectors will be at work in what the organization calls “… the largest targeted enforcement program on commercial motor vehicles in the world.”
Each year, International Roadcheck places special emphasis on a category of violations, and this year the focus is on is cargo securement.
Inspectors will conduct the North American Standard Level I Inspection, which CVSA says is the most thorough roadside inspection with 37 steps.
CVSA inspectors will:
- Ask drivers for their license, endorsements, medical card and hours-of-service documentation
- Check for seat belt usage
- Check for use of alcohol and/or drugs.
They will also inspect the vehicle’s
- braking system
- coupling devices
- exhaust system
- frame
- fuel system
- lights
- safe loading
- steering mechanism
- drive line,
- suspension
- tires
- van and open-top trailer bodies
- wheels and rims
- windshield wipers
- emergency exits on buses.
Participating in International Roadcheck are the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, Canadian Council of Motor Transport Administrators, Transport Canada and the Secretariat of Communications and Transportation of Mexico.
