TravelCenters of America announced today it will launch the StayFit driver health and wellness initiative beginning Jan. 1.
The program is designed to assist drivers in making healthier choices on the road. One of the primary benefits of the program will be the addition of the StayFit icon to menu items at Petro Iron Skillet, TA Country Pride and other full-service restaurants; these icons denote menu items deemed “healthier-for-you” options. This icon also will appear on grocery and snack items at TA and Petro travel stores to designate items lower in calories, sugar, carbohydrates or sodium or other dietary advantages designated by their producer as better for you.
With the new program, TA also works to provide drivers with medical services and information on the road. The company has teamed with the St. Christopher Truckers Development & Relief Fund, which operates the Medical Resource Vehicle. The vehicle visits various Petro and TA travel centers to perform medical screenings and bloodwork and give drivers health information. (Find out where the Medical Resource Vehicle can be located.)
In addition, 10 Petro and TA travel stores along I-95 and I-40 will have driver fitness rooms available for drivers who are UltraONE club members. Other locations will offer maps of local walking and jogging trails.
“Drivers have asked ask us to help them be healthier and make better food choices,” said Tom O’Brien, President and CEO of TravelCenters of America, in a press release. “Our facilities have the room, the systems and the flexibility to offer a program like StayFit for the benefit of those drivers. Only full-service facilities like TA and Petro can offer a program with all the elements of StayFit. We do this because we listen and respect the needs of our guests. We want them to live healthy lives doing what they love to do and keeping our country moving.”

Thank you TA/Petro! I hear this has been tried before, but the time is right and I think drivers are going to be much more receptive this time around!
A big thanks to Tom O’Brian for thinking of the health and nutrition of drivers out on the road.
Way to go Petro and YEA to TA. I will use any opportunity to stay fit that you can offer. Lets hope drivers will respect and use this chance.
Congrats to TA/Petro! Taking the lead in helping drivers make healthy choices is another example of how TA/Petro cares and listens to their customers.
It is great to see TA/Petro step up. The health of out OTR drivers is a serious problem. TA/Petro has stepped up to help more than any other truck stop. Now it is up to drivers to show them that we approve by selecting the healthy items on the menu and using the fit centers.
that great ta/petro this will be a great addition to the stops, i cant wait for the fittness rooms. awesome and thanks.
Thank you TA/Petro! You have won my business. If it is at all possible I will purchase all of my fuel and needed supplies from you! Loves and Pilot/J do not care about the truck drivers and have moved to catering only to the 4 wheel motoring public. You have shown your allegiance to us and now we will do the same. DRIVERS…. follow my lead if your not already doing so; we cannot lose TA/Petro there all we have left out here!!!!!
great news my new years resolution is to loose weight this will be a great asset to reach my goal again thanks looking forward to stoping at a truck stop that cares for truck drivers not fast food joints tourist 4-wheelers and motor homes way to go see you soon.

I for one would welcome the oportunity to stop at TA/Petro to work out and take a shower after, so I don’t stink up the truck or my bunk.thanks for looking out for our needs and desires to get and stay as healthy as possible, great job, god bless and prosper all who would look out for us as we try to help our nation keep moving forward..FH st. helens, or.
Truckstops need some kind of exercise roooms with free weights ,bikes, treadmills ect.The only way fitness is going to be acheived is cardiovascular activity, and I don’t mean walking briskly around the parking lot(even though this isn’t a bad idea).I would love to be able finish my day or start it with a good lift,15 minutes on the bike,15 minutes on the treadmill, shower, off to work. All in one place.Wrking out in a cab no matter how spacious blows.Your complete range of motion is limited, not to mention ou will bang into something.I know this will never happen because of our friend called liability insurance and wht Major truckstops won’t take any risk of some 325 pound driver stroking out in there weight room.Remedy! release of liability waiver so we cant sue if our own sorry health gets in the way of fitness.Get used to the fact truckstops are never going to be healthy places unless there is a movement to get the things in place to promote health, not just a healthy food menu.It would be good for the longevity of all who work in this industry, especially us OTR men and women.
Thank you to Mr. Tom and Mr. Mike and everyone who have been so gracious to take their time at TA/Petro to listen to we the drivers. Not only do we ask them to listen to us but we need to listen to them. Maybe we can switch hats and ask what can we do in return to help you? The choices and changes are excellent and upon eating more in both of these restaurants which, I have never been one to do very much, I wanted to see for myself. What I have seen is a huge turnaround already in the meals. And in the facilities that have been renovated. I now make it a point to take the time and try to eat as I should. Thank you again Mr. O’Brien and Staff for being there with and for us.
