Military veterans on the road in the days to come will find they have plenty of dining options at a great price: free.
Numerous restaurants are offering free meals to veterans, while others are offering discounts. Even some retailers are offering specials for those in the military who served.
TravelCenters of America, operators of TA and Petro Stopping Centers, is honoring truck drivers who are military veterans by offering free meals on Veterans Day, Tuesday, Nov. 11. at their sit-down restaurants, including nearly 220 participating Iron Skillet, Country Pride and other full-service, home-style eateries.
The free-meal offer for veterans holding a commercial drivers license is up to a $15 value. They only need to show proof of service to their server prior to ordering a meal. Proof of service includes: U.S. Uniform Services Retired ID Card; Veterans Organization Card; Photograph in uniform; DD214; or Citation or Commendation.
“Once again, we are taking this opportunity to thank the many truck drivers who are also military veterans for their service and sacrifice — both in our armed forces, and each day on the road,” said Tom O’Brien, TA’s president and CEO.

Red Lobster is offering veterans, active duty military and reservists a free appetizer from a select menu. The deal is valid Monday through Thursday.
Veterans and active-duty military eat free from a special menu at Applebee’s restaurants.
Texas Roadhouse locations will serve free meals to active, former and retired military. Meal selection is from a special menu. A free soft drink, tea or coffee is also included.
At Golden Corral, anyone who has served in the U.S. military will receive a free buffet and beverage from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 17. No identification is required.
Veterans and active military personnel will receive all-you-can-eat hotcakes from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. at Bob Evans restaurants on Veterans Day. Guests must provide proof of service by providing a U.S. Uniformed Services (current or retired) Identification Card, a current Leave and Earnings Statement (LES), or a veterans’ organization card (American Legion or VFW, for example). Guests wearing a military uniform on Veterans Day also are eligible.
At McCormick & Schmick’s, veterans eat free from a special menu on Sunday. Menu choices include Salmon Rigatoni, Parmesan Crusted Chicken, Tender Beef Medallions and McCormick’s Cheeseburger.
Veterans and active-duty military will receive a free Create Your Own Combo entree at participating On The Border restaurants.
Starbucks is thanking all veterans, active duty service members and spouses with a free tall (12 fl oz) hot brewed coffee on Veterans Day.
At participating Krispy Kreme locations, veterans and active-duty military personnel will receive a free doughnut and small coffee. No purchase necessary and no coupon or ID required. Simply identify yourself as a veteran.
