Police in New Jersey say a motorist was texting when he crossed the center line and slammed into a tractor-trailer Monday, May 22.

nj.com reports Pava Dama, 33, of East Windsor, New Jersey was driving a 2007 Jetta westbound on Ridge Road in South Brunswick when he crossed over double yellow lines and struck the 2008 Freightliner almost head-on. South Brunswick Police said the impact ripped the VW’s engine out of the car and tossed it 20 feet down the highway.

The truck driver, a 68-year-old East Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania man was not charged, nor was he injured.

Police ticketed Dama for careless driving, failure to maintain lane, crossing a double yellow line, and the use of cellphone while operating a motor vehicle. He was not seriously injured in the mishap.
