TransCore: Spot loads drop in December; higher for year

U.S. spot market loads on TransCore’s load board network declined 14 percent in December from November but were 25 percent higher than the previous year.
Spot market capacity increased 9 percent from the previous month and 24 percent over a year earlier.
Most equipment types dropped for the month but were ahead over the year, according to TransCore. Van loads were 20 percent lower for the month and 2.3 percent higher year over year. Spot van rates were down 1.5 percent for the month but ahead 4.7 percent over the year.
Flatbed loads were 19 percent lower for the month and 3.9 percent lower over the year. Flatbed rates were even for the month and up 5.7 percent year over year.
Refrigerated loads were off 21 percent for the month but 16 percent higher for the year. Rates were down 1.9 percent over the month but 4.8 percent over the year.
