But, talk to Bryant Mann, the owner of the truck and White Pine Paving of Hampstead, Maryland and all becomes completely clear.
Talking Wednesday as he readied his truck for the PKY Truck Beauty Contest at the Mid-America Trucking Show at the Kentucky Exposition Center in Louisville, Mann explained the truck is a tribute to people who have battled cancer. Some won and others did not. The names of both groups are on the truck.
Mann said the truck was inspired by Debbie Peregoy, a family friend who battled cancer and lost. Her name is atop the list of people on the truck’s hood.
The Pete is retired from the paving business with 1 million miles, but will make the rounds of shows, parades and convoys to raise awareness and inspire others. MATS was the truck’s first big show.
MATS opens at 1 p.m. today and runs through Saturday.
