A contaminated water crisis has left residents of Flint, Mich. in a precarious situation and trucking companies are offering their support.
Ohio-based Jet Express, a regional truckload carrier, launched a campaign to collect donations of bottled water for Flint residents. Flint’s water has been contaminated with dangerous lead, making it unsafe for consumption.
Jet Express’ President Kevin Burch told Dayton Daily News he would donate a driver’s services and a truck and trailer to ship donated bottled water to Flint.
“I tell you what, that town is hurting,” Burch told the news organization.
Third-party logistics provider ROAR Logistics joined Buffalo, New York’s True Bethel Church in their Operation H2O campaign. The campaign is accepting bottled water donations at True Bethel’s main location, and ROAR Logistics is making sure the water gets to Flint residents.
“Transportation is our business and we’re going to provide the truck, the man-power and expertise necessary to safely load and transport the clean water bound for Michigan,” said Robert Rich III, president of ROAR Logistics.
Flint’s water was compromised after the city switched its water supply from Lake Huron to the Flint River. The river’s polluted water eroded the city’s iron main pipes, allowing lead into the water.
