XPO driver wins West Virginia Grand Champion title

XPO Logistics driver Larry Gorby, of Charleston, West Virginia, won the state’s grand champion title for having the highest overall score at the West Virginia Truck Driving Championships. The championships brought 37 drivers together to compete June 17 in Buckhannon.

Gorby has competed in 15 West Virginia Truck Driving Championships and has won his class of competition three times. He’s driven more than 2.4 million miles in his 27 years as a trucker.

Professional Driver of the Year: Kevin Tucker, XPO Logistics

State Police Safety Award: Paul Norman, Pitt Ohio

Public Service Commission Driver of the Year: Tony Sutherland, XPO Logistics

Straight Truck: Larry Gorby, XPO Logistics

3-Axle: Matt Meadows, ABF Freight System

4-Axle: Randy Thomas, FedEx Freight

5-Axle: Jason Smith, Walmart Transportation

Tank Truck: Kenneth Grimmet, XPO Logistics

Flatbed: Jim Beall, Winjean Trucking Co.

Twin Trailers: FedEx Freight

Sleeper Berth: William Adkins, FedEx Freight

Step Van: Robert Vance, FedEx Ground

Pre-Trip Inspection Award: Kenneth Tresselt, FedEx Express

Rookie of the Year: Jeremy Thomas, FedEx Freight
