Alabama, Michigan honor their drivers of the year

Two veteran truckers — one in Alabama and the other in Michigan — were honored in their respective states as part of National Truck Driver Appreciation Week. Combined, they have deriven more than 7 million accident-free miles.

Rosko Craig is Alabama’s Driver of the Year

Alabama’s Truck Driver of the Year was honored at the State Capitol Monday, Sept. 14.

Rosko Craig of Montgomery Transport was honored by Gov. Kay Ivey with a commendation recognizing him as Alabama’s Truck Driver of the Year.

“Rosko certainly has a positive attitude and a proven track record over his 20+ year trucking career,” Ivey told the Alabama Daily News. “Our hats go off to Rosko and all our truckers who keep Alabama moving!”

Craig, 50, is from Silas, Alabama. According to the Alabama Trucking Association, he has logged more than 3 million miles of accident-free driving for Montgomery Transport.

“For me, the keys to success in the trucking industry are safety, number one, hard work and determination,” Craig said. “I love trucking because it was a childhood dream of mine. I support my family, my wife, my son, my daughter, my grandson – they are my rock and my backbone. I couldn’t do this without them.”

Alan Maike is Michigan’s Driver of the Year

Alan Maike of Davis Cartage Company was named the Michigan Trucking Association’s 2020 Driver of the Year. Maike has driven more than 4 million miles during his 35-year driving career with Davis Cartage.

Also, WC Tank Lines was named MTA’s Excellence in Fleet Safety Grand Champion.

The awards ceremony was streamed on Facebook Live Monday, Sept. 14 evening.
