Six drivers with a combined 11 million safe driving miles were honored by their company, Boyd Bros. Transportation, Friday, Dec. 1, during an awards banquet.

Each of the drivers received a bonus, pay increase, a trophy and several other awards. They included:

James Redmon: 3 Million Miles

Redmon has spent his entire 23-year trucking career at Boyd Brothers. He reached three million safe-driving miles in August.

“It’s a great feeling and I’m just glad I’ve been able to do all three million with the same company,” Redmon said.

Redmon says you can’t let the way other people drive frustrate you, because when you’re frustrated, you’ll make mistakes. “Just be patient,” he said.

“There are professional drivers, then there is James. He raises the bar for all truckers,” said Kevin Spivey, Redmon’s fleet manager.

Redmon is from Montgomery, Alabama.

Wayne Leosch: 2 Million Miles

Leosch says trucking is as simple as taking your time and planning ahead. “Take your time and do the job right the first time,” he said.

“Wayne weaves safety into everything he does. He is a great example of a 2 Million Miler,” Spivey said. Spivey is his fleet manager.

Leosch has spent his entire 22-year career with Boyd Bros. For reaching two million safe driving miles (2MM), Loesch received a $3,000 bonus and a $0.01 cpm increase. He was awarded a trophy, a 2MM cap, ring, jacket, 2MM patch, 2MM pin, 2MM belt buckle and truck decal.

Alabama Trucking Association Certificate of Achievement

Redmon, left, was presented a Certificate of Achievement by Alabama Trucking Association’s Tim Frazier.

McMillian says the key to success as a driver is to plan out each trip and never forget safety.

“You have to pay attention to others on the road and slow down,” McMillian, from Selma, Alabama, said.

“Donald defines Boyd Pride. His leadership makes a huge impact on our drivers,” said Spivey, his fleet manager.

McMillian has spent his entire 21-year career with Boyd Bros. For reaching two million safe driving miles, McMillian received a $3,000 bonus and a $0.01 cpm increase. He was awarded a trophy, a 2MM cap, ring, jacket, 2MM patch, 2MM pin, 2MM belt buckle and truck decal.

Nephus Stanley: 2 Million Miles

Stanley, from Newport News, Virginia, said reaching two million miles is humbling.

“I didn’t think I’d make it this far,” Stanley said.

Stanley’s fleet manager, Ruth Brummitt, said she is proud to work with him.

Stanley has spent his entire 18.5-year driving career with Boyd Bros. For reaching two million safe driving miles, Stanley received a $3,000 bonus and a $0.01 cpm increase. He was awarded a trophy, a 2MM cap, ring, jacket, 2MM patch, 2MM pin, 2MM belt buckle and truck decal.

Johnson, from Pottsboro, Texas, was shocked but excited to reach one million miles. He stays focused on managing his time and tries to stay patient while he’s driving.

“Be sure to give yourself plenty of time. You have a better chance of being safe, if you’re not rushed. Deliver on time, because it’s a team effort. Without sales, you can’t achieve one million miles,” Johnson said.

Johnson has been with Boyd Bros. for 10 years and has been driving for 18 years. For reaching one million safe driving miles (1MM), Johnson received a $1,500 bonus and a $0.01 cpm increase. He was awarded a trophy, a 1MM cap, ring, jacket, 1MM patch, 1MM pin, 1MM belt buckle and truck decal.

“Jamie is a man you can depend on. He is a true professional,” said Rhetta Currie, his fleet manager.

“I wish I could clone an entire fleet of him,” Galloway said.
