Jacob Elkins (Image Courtesy of Truckload Carriers Association)CFI driver Jacob Elkins, of Joplin, Missouri, has been recognized as a Highway Angel by the Truckload Carriers Association for helping another driver after their truck went into the ditch.
In May 2018, Elkins was driving through Illinois on Interstate 70 when he discovered another CFI semi in a ditch. Elkins was the first person to arrive on the scene. Elkins approached the cab and tried to help the driver, who was weak and having trouble speaking. He stayed with the driver until emergency personnel arrived.
“I’ve been driving since I was 21 years old,” said Elkins. “I’ve seen trucks rolled over, stuck in ditches, fatalities and close calls. Just a few months ago a woman in front of me rolled her car and I had to cut her out through the windshield. You drop what you’re doing and go at first instinct, even though you might lose time or miles.”
As part of his Highway Angel recognition, TCA presented Elkins with a certificate, patch, lapel pin and truck decals.
