The driver of a semi died Thursday, May 11, morning when the container on the trailer he was pulling detached and slammed into the truck’s cab.

Bradley John Donovan, 46, of Kalama, Washington was traveling on I-5 north in Tacoma when his truck struck a box truck from behind just south of 72nd Street. The box truck spun and struck two other vehicles, according to the Washington State Patrol.

Donovan’s truck then hit the median barrier, according to mynorthwest.com. The impact caused the container to detach from the trailer, strike the tractor and fall onto the highway, stopping traffic for several hours.
He was declared dead at the scene, according to police.
