Since March there have been 36 accidents involving commercial vehicles on what is known locally as “The Big Curve” at the merge of the Beltway and the Interstate 270 spur in Bethesda, Maryland. Police blame speed for most, while others suggest that stretch of highway needs to be rebuilt. An enforcement blitz in May by Maryland State Police put 19 vehicles and 15 drivers out of service in two days.
