Fire destroys tractor, trailer & 32,000 lbs. of cheese

Fire destroyed a tractor-trailer and its cargo of 32,000 pounds of cheese in Wisconsin earlier this week.

The fire occurred on southbound I-43 near Mequon north of Milwaukee the evening of Wednesday, Jan. 9.

The driver of the truck felt his wheels lock up, and then saw sparks coming from the rear of the truck, according to the Journal Sentinel. The driver pulled into the emergency lane near the Mequon Road exit but, the fire had engulfed the trailer and had started spreading toward the truck, according to the Ozaukee County Sheriff’s Office.

The truck driver was not injured. The truck, trailer, and cheese were destroyed, according to the sheriff’s office.
