Among the many ELDs available is the new Garmin eLog, which is compliant with the requirements of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration. What sets it apart is that after the initial purchase there are no subscription fees.

The Garmin eLog supports nine-pin J1939 and six-pin J1708 diagnostic ports making it fit nearly any truck. Users can download the device’s eLog app to store records on a smartphone.

According to Garmin, the eLog automatically records driving time, provides access to set driver duty status and allows users to quickly see remaining driving hours by day or week. All records are stored on the driver’ smartphone. When needed, records are easily retrieved for roadside inspection with a USB flash drive.

The eLog is compatible with Garmin’s dezel 570, 770 and dezelCam truck navigation devices, and is available at travel centers.
