Eat This, Not That: Arby’s roast beef

Updated Aug 12, 2014

Offering no hamburgers or steak options, is Arby’s roast beef any better for you than other restaurants?

Comparing their Regular Roast Beef sandwich to their Large Beef’n Cheddar, the calories are still high, greasy or not. The important thing to remember at Arby’s is cut back on that cheese! Let’s look at the difference in calories and fat with the two sandwiches.

Calories:

Large Beef’n Cheddar has 650 calories

Regular Roast Beef has a total of 350 calories

Difference: 300 calories, or 15 percent of your daily caloric intake based on a 2,000 calorie diet

Grams of fat:

Large Beef’n Cheddar has 33g total fat, 11g saturated fat

Regular Roast Beef 13g total fat, 4.5g saturated fat

Difference: 20g total fat, 6.5g saturated fat

The cheese can really get you, so try going without. Instead, dress your sandwich up with Arby’s sauce, only 15 calories per packet. If you are ordering a combo meal, take it a step further and order small potato cakes instead of small curly fries. With that replacement you’ll save yourself 150 calories.
