Schneider driver from Illinois honored for 4 million miles

An over-the-road truck driver for one of the country’s largest companies was recently recognized for having driven four million miles on the job.

Rodney Owen from McLeansboro, Ill., joined four other company drivers in Schneider history with at least four million safe driving miles.

“It’s taken me nearly 28 years to reach four million miles, and I’ve learned something new to make me a safer, more efficient driver each and every day along the way,” said Owen. “I constantly pay attention and anticipate what other drivers are going to do so I can adjust accordingly en route. Every minute and every hour brings something different.”

Schneider, which is ranked eighth on “Commercial carrier Journal’s Top 250 list, recently recognized 149 drivers with Million Mile awards. The ward recognizes Schneider drivers who have reached one million safe driving miles. In addition to Owen, this year that includes:

  • Ninety-seven drivers with one million miles
  • Forty-one drivers with two million
  • Ten drivers with three million

Each safe Million Mile Award recipient is honored at an annual banquet and receives a patch, plaque and decal to display on their tractors.

Additionally, the names of those who achieve three million safe driving miles are recognized in the Schneider Haul of Fame, a prominent wall at the company’s corporate headquarters in Green Bay, Wis.

“It’s astounding to have such a large number of Schneider drivers accomplish this many accident-free miles,” said Todd Jadin, vice president with Schneider. “It’s a testament to their unwavering commitment to our number one core value of ‘Safety First and Always.’”

Since 1983, almost 5,000 Schneider company drivers have been recognized for driving more than one million consecutive miles safely.
