Bestpass, Inc., providers of single source payment and toll management services to trucking fleets, held its second annual “Operation: Big Wheels for Heroes” touch-a-truck fundraiser in conjunction with the New York State Motor Truck Association at the Crossgates Mall in suburban Albany, NY Saturday, Oct 3.
The event drew more than 650 parents, children and community members and raised $1,400 for Wreaths Across America. The money will pay for a full truck of wreaths for the ceremonies.
“It was great to see such a high turnout and the community’s enthusiasm for the trucks,” said Alison Knowlton, communications director for Bestpass. “People see trucks on the roads every day, but relatively little is known about them, the people who drive them and what their jobs are really like. We hope our touch-a-truck events, in addition to helping a very worthy cause, give people fresh perspectives and insights about careers in trucking and to see trucking as an exciting career choice.”
After a successful first “Operation: Big Wheels” event in 2014, Bestpass staff published a digital how-to guide for planning and holding touch-a-truck fundraisers. The comprehensive 79-page guide, offered as a free service.
Touch-a-truck events can heighten the profile of the trucking industry in a community, raise funds, and provide information and public access to commercial trucks and drivers, helping to dispel negative stereotypes and foster a positive public image of the trucking industry.
Founded in 2001 by the New York State Motor Truck Association, Bestpass was designed for truckers, by truckers, to save commercial motor carriers time and money.
