A public-private job-creation organization is working with a Florida truck driving school to create a program to ensure new truck drivers have the skills they need to be successful on the road and as employees.
CareerEdge Funders Collaborative, located in Sarasota, Fla., and Suncoast Trucking Academy in Punta Gorda, Fla. are funding a skills training program called Bridges to Careers as an added component to the academy’s CDL training and certification program. The objective is to increase jobs in the region’s transportation, distribution and logistics industry, and to improve the skills of those in its workforce.
The program offers training in areas such as professionalism, communication, customer service, time management and team building to go with the driving basics taught at Suncoast.
