The latest statistics show that over 30 million Americans — more than 9 percent of the population — have diabetes. Of that number, about a quarter are 65 years of age or older.
And, it’s an expensive disease. The American Diabetes Association estimates the disease accounts for $237 billion for direct medical costs and $90 billion in reduced productivity.
However, there are things you can do to minimize the likelihood of becoming diabetic and several relatively simple things you can do to manage if you have diabetes.
