Part of Interstate 90 near Painesville, Ohio was closed much of Thursday afternoon, evening and overnight because of a large chain-reaction accident involving more than 50 vehicles, including as many as a dozen tractor-trailers.
The accident, which occurred east of Cleveland and not far from Lake Erie, happened as crews cleaned up after a similar large mishap on Interstate 96 in central Michigan.
I-90 reopened today at about 6:30 a.m.
Snow and icy road conditions were blamed for both pileups.
The Akron Beacon Journal reports that as many as 20 people were taken to area hospitals as a result of the Ohio crash. The newspaper also reports that the chain-reaction accident began when a truck collided with a Greyhound bus from behind.
