Thirteen people were injured in a series of collisions that eventually involved 43 vehicles Sunday on Maryland's Chesapeake Bay Bridge.
The first crash happened around 7:45 a.m. in dense fog on the westbound span of the bridge. That initial incident involved 23 vehicles and was followed by several other crashes that eventually involved another 20 vehicles.
Several tractor-trailers were involved in the two mishaps.
The Maryland Transportation Authority said that of the 13 people taken to the hospital, two had serious injuries. However, MDTA said none of the injuries appeared to be life-threatening.
Traffic on the bridge was halted for several hours.
Investigation into the accidents continues.
