Some 8 million dimes spilled onto the ground alongside Highway 287 in Alvord, Texas Tuesday, April 29 when a tractor-trailer overturned.
The $800,000 cargo spilled when the truck's driver veered off the highway about 50 miles northwest of Fort Worth, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety. The driver overcorrected and the rig tipped onto its side.
Cleanup crews used everything from vacuum trucks to their hands to pick up the coins.
The truck's driver and a passenger were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment of modest injuries.
Authorities did not know here the dimes were coming from or going to.
The highway was closed for most of the day.
