
A recent enforcement blitz by troopers in six states wound up with more than 6,800 citations being written for safety belt violations.
During the eight-day initiative by the 6-State Trooper Project, which ran from Monday, May 19 through Monday, May 26, officers issued 6,863 citations for safety belt violations. Another 401 citations were issued relating to child safety seat violations, according to a statement from the project.
The campaign included the Indiana State Police, Kentucky State Police, Michigan State Police, Pennsylvania State Police, Ohio State Police, and West Virginia State Police.
The 6-State Trooper Project is a multi-state law enforcement partnership aimed at providing combined and coordinated law enforcement and security services in the areas of highway safety, criminal patrol and information sharing.
