The American Trucking Associations’ Board of Directors elected Greg Hodgen, CEO of Groendyke Transport Inc. based in Enid, Oklahoma, as the Federation’s 81st Chairman.
The election occurred at the associations' annual management conference and exhibition in San Diego.
“It is a tremendous honor to be the 81st Chairman of the American Trucking Associations,” said Hodgen. “Trucking is a noble profession, one that I love and am proud to have been a part of for the past three decades. As I step into this role, I carry with me the stories, challenges, and values that define our industry.”
Hodgen succeeds Dennis Dellinger, president & CEO of Cargo Transporters, as ATA Chairman.
ATA’s Board also elected Derek Leathers, chairman and CEO of Werner Enterprises Inc. in Omaha, Nebraska, as first vice chair and Randy Clifford, chairman and CEO of Ventura Transfer Company in Long Beach, California, as second vice chair. In addition, Gregg Troian, president of PGT Trucking Inc. in Aliquippa, Pennsylvania, was elected as vice chair. The Board re-elected John M. Smith, chairman of CRST International Holdings LLC, as secretary. Harold Sumerford Jr., CEO of J&M Tank Lines Inc., was elected as treasurer.
State association leaders honored
Also during the ATA gathering, the associations' Executives Council recognized eight state trucking executives for their service to the industry and the ATA Federation.
The eight executives recognized by ATA and TAEC this year have a combined 95 years of experience. They include:
Colorado Motor Carriers Association President Greg Fulton was recognized for 30 years of service.
Maine Motor Transport Association President & CEO Brian Parke was recognized for 15 years of service.
Oregon Trucking Associations President & CEO Jana Jarvis, Oklahoma Trucking Association President & CEO Jim Newport, and New Hampshire Motor Transport Association President and Vermont Truck & Bus Association Executive Director Joe Sculley were recognized for 10 years of continued service to the industry.
North Dakota Motor Carriers Association Administrator Kacey Heidrich, Louisiana Motor Transport Association Executive Director Renee Amar, and Montana Trucking Association Chief Executive Officer Duane Williams were each recognized for five years of service.
Mississippi association president honored
During ATA's gathering, Hal Miller, president of the Mississippi Trucking Association, received the Executives Council President’s Leadership Award.
“Hal grew up in a trucking family, and upon graduating college, he worked to grow the family business. The ATA Federation was fortunate that, after 30 very successful years, Hal decided to embark on a second career as president of the Mississippi Trucking Association,” said ATA President & CEO Chris Spear.
Before becoming president of the Mississippi Trucking Association in 2014, Miller was a fleet manager with 31 years of experience. Miller served as the executive vice president of Miller Transportation Services, the corporation that owns tank truck carrier Miller Transporters. During this period, Miller also served on the Mississippi Trucking Association Board of Directors for nearly two decades, including a term as chair.
The President's TAEC Leadership Award was created in 2002 by ATA to honor a state trucking association leader and to create an enduring legacy for that leader and for the industry. The award comes with a $10,000 grant for a trucking scholarship, education program, or research cause to be chosen by Miller.
