An early morning crash today left part of a tandem tractor-trailer rig hanging from an interstate near Syracuse, New York.

Police report the tractor-trailer split in half shortly after midnight, send part to an access road below northbound Interstate 481 in the Syracuse suburb of DeWitt.

The crash was reported at 12:16 a.m. near the exit to Interstate 690 West, according to authorities.

The truck was northbound on I-481 when it began to drift toward the exit for I-690 west, police said. The driver merged late to continue on I-481, said a police spokesperson.

The last trailer got caught in some mud as the truck continued on I-481, according to police. The truck rolled onto its side along with the trailer.

One trailer was torn in half, landing on a state Department of Transportation access road below.

The driver was not injured in the crash.

Northbound I-481 was closed until about 7:15 a.m.
