A task force of law enforcement agencies recently seized almost 400 pounds of cocaine and arrested the driver of a tractor-trailer at the Blue Water Bridge crossing between Michigan and Ontario, Canada.
On Nov. 25, just before 6:30 p.m., members of the Homeland Security Task Force North, observed two commercial motor vehicles at a local truck stop with Ontario plates. They departed in opposite directions.
The first traveled to the Blue Water Bridge in Port Huron, Michigan where an inspection was completed, assisted by K9 Argo of the Warren (Michigan) Police Department. Over 390 pounds of cocaine were located, according to a statement form the sheriff's department.
The driver was arrested.
The second vehicle was observed swerving multiple times and a traffic stop was conducted. St. Clair County Sheriff’s K9 Brock yielded a positive alert on a free air sniff and a search was conducted.
Members on the HSTF included officers from the Port Huron Police Department, Warren Police Department, St. Clair County Sheriff, Homeland Security Investigations, Customs and Border Protection, Ontario Provincial Police, and Canada Border Services Agency. Customs and Border Protection assisted in the arrest at the bridge.
“Thank you to the law enforcement officers involved in this case for their dedication to disrupting the dispersal of narcotics into the community. The St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office prioritizes community safety and multi-jurisdictional task forces allow departments to achieve more by combining skills, resources, and knowledge,” said St. Clair County Sheriff Mat King.
