Free ELDT audit checklist available

With the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration increasing enforcement of the Entry-Level Driver Training requirements, J. J. Keller & Associates, Inc. is offering a free ELDT Audit Checklist and its Safe & Smart ELDT Trainer Certification Program to help companies ensure compliance and prepare for audits.

More than 3,000 ELDT providers have already been removed from the FMCSA’s Training Provider Registry for non-compliance, and another 4,500 are at risk as the FMCSA begins a review of all 16,000 providers for adherence to the ELDT rule, which went into effect in 2022.

“Our free new ELDT Audit Checklist will help companies that use a third-party ELDT provider or that conduct training in-house to verify compliance with federal requirements,” said Dustin Kufahl, vice president of consulting and training services at J. J. Keller. “The checklist covers everything from documentation to training materials, instructor qualifications, student and vehicle records, training assessments and record retention.”

For companies relying on a third-party ELDT provider, removal from the TPR could cause significant driver onboarding delays. According to Kufahl, bringing training in-house with J. J. Keller’s Safe & Smart ELDT Trainer Certification Program provides turnkey resources to start delivering compliant, high-quality training without depending on an expensive outside provider that operates on their own schedule.

Kenworth adds electronic parking brake

Kenworth recently announced the Bendix Intellipark Electronic Parking Brake (EPB) system is now an available option for Kenworth heavy- and medium-duty models.

The system is equipped with advanced safety features such as Rollaway Mitigation, Smart Unpark and Auto Trailer Brake Release (on towing models).  The features are supported by unique interlocks that verify the vehicle is ready to be parked or unparked through sensors that monitor door position, seat belt status, and vehicle movement.

The Electronic Parking Brake system replaces traditional red-and-yellow push/pull knobs with new ergonomic switches that feature LEDs clearly showing park brake status at a glance. The easy-to-activate design maintains the recognizable symbols while simplifying operation, eliminating the “sting” usually associated with manual valves, and helping to reduce fatigue and distraction during frequent stops. The EPB system is a great enhancement for drivers in pickup-and-delivery, refuse, and start-and-stop vocational applications.

“The Electronic Parking Brake system brings a new level of redundancy, simplicity, and assurance to our customers,” said Kevin Haygood, Kenworth’s assistant general manager for sales and marketing. “With EPB, drivers can count on an added layer of protection that helps to mitigate rollaway incidents. While this technology is beneficial for any customer, it’s particularly useful in vocational, P&D, and other applications that require drivers to enter and exit the cab numerous times per day.”

Google and RapidSOS now provide truck crash video to 911

RapidSOS, the public safety AI company, has introduced the integration of Google's live video capability for Android devices directly into RapidSOS' network of 22,000+ state and local public safety agencies. The feature allows Android users to securely share live video at the request of 911 during an emergency, transforming situational awareness for public safety.

RapidSOS' integration of Android's Emergency Live Video to 911 transforms a legacy voice-only call into a rich, real-time data stream.

Now, during an emergency call or text on Android, if the responder determines that seeing the scene would be helpful and it's safe to do so, they can send a request to your device. You'll see a prompt on your screen, and you can choose to start securely sharing your camera's live video with one tap. The feature is encrypted by default, and you are always in control of whether your video is shared, and can stop sharing instantly at any time.

First responders get one complete view of an emergency in seconds before they arrive on scene. This is possible because RapidSOS HARMONY AI instantly combines live video with other data sources in the RapidSOS network all in a single view for 911.

RapidSOS provides a robust, redundant pathway, interoperable across public safety's existing software systems. The result is enhanced system resilience, especially during large-scale incidents like natural disasters where traditional phone networks can be strained and call volumes spike by as much as 12,500%.
