Canada Border Services Agency officers at the Coutts port of entry in southern Alberta, Canada seized 300 kg of suspected methamphetamine and 80 kg of suspected cocaine from a commercial truck on July 2.
The commercial truck originated in California, was destined for Vilna, Alberta and contained a load that had been declared as bath tissue. CBSA officers examined the truck and noticed abnormalities in the load. Upon further examination, they detected and seized the concealed suspected narcotics from 12 medium-sized moving boxes as well as another smaller box and a duffle bag.
The driver was arrested by CBSA officers. The driver and the suspected drugs were transferred to the custody of the RCMP Federal Policing Northwest Region.
Pitt Ohio donates chargers
PITT OHIO, a provider of regional and national logistics services and sustainability in the transportation industry is proud to announce the donation of two Tritium 75 kW DC fast chargers -Tritium RTM / 75kW electric vehicle charging equipment to the Community College of Allegheny County.
The donated equipment will support CCAC's educational programs and provide students with opportunities to learn about technologies increasingly being adopted across the transportation, logistics, and automotive sectors.
The donation reflects PITT OHIO's ongoing commitment to environmental stewardship and investing in the next generation of transportation and technical professionals.
CCAC has long played a role in preparing students for careers in skilled trades, transportation, and technical fields. By making modern equipment available to students, the college can further enhance hands-on learning opportunities that help bridge classroom instruction and real-world application.
“We are thankful to PITT OHIO for this generous donation and their continued support of workforce development,” said Robert Koch, Automotive Instructor and Professor at CCAC. “The transportation industry is undergoing significant technological change, and it is critical that students gain experience with the tools and systems shaping its future."
Association honors trucking lawyer
The American Trucking Associations recently announced that Doug Marcello, a shareholder with the Saxton & Stump law firm, was recognized by the Trucking Associations Executive Council with the J.R. “Bob” Halladay Award.
Presented to individuals who have made significant contributions to assist and support the work of the state trucking associations that comprise the ATA Federation, the Halladay Award is only awarded when a TAEC region hosting the annual meeting deems an individual worthy of recognition.
“I am truly honored and humbled to receive this recognition,” Marcello said. “While my name may be on the award, it reflects the dedication and contributions of the many people I've had the privilege of working alongside over the years, especially the members and staff of TAEC."
A trial counsel in 35 states, Marcello handles all aspects of the trucking industry’s legal needs. In addition to his legal work, Marcello is a champion for the trucking industry’s safety and growth.
TAEC established the J.R. "Bob" Halladay Award in 1990. The award is named after Bob Halladay, who held a long and distinguished career in the trucking industry beginning in 1952 with his appointment as Managing Director of the Kansas Motor Carriers Association.
