Fleetworthy, a complete technology suite for fleet readiness, recently announced the expansion of Expedited Inspection to four additional states: California, Michigan, Vermont, and Maine, bringing the total to five states.

Available exclusively through Fleetworthy's Weigh Station Bypass (formerly Drivewyze) solution, Expedited Inspection automates the secure transfer of fleet and vehicle data to enforcement and delivers a driver's Electronic Record of Duty Status (eRODS) directly to officers when a truck is selected for inspection.

Roadside inspections require drivers and officers to exchange vehicle, fleet, and hours-of-service information. Expedited Inspection automates that exchange, delivering data directly to enforcement and helping officers complete inspections faster while cutting paperwork for drivers. Expedited Inspection is currently Virtual Vehicle Enabled and compatible with electronic logging devices (ELDs) from Geotab and Platform Science, with additional integrations planned as the program continues to scale.

Fatigued driving focus of WA operation

In 2024, fatigued driving was a factor in nearly 650 traffic fatalities, according to data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

While fatigued driving can happen at any time of day, NHTSA points to three factors commonly associated with what it calls “drowsy-driving crashes.”

  • Most common between midnight and 6 a.m., or in the late afternoon. During both of those times, people experience a dip in their circadian rhythm.
  • Often involve a single driver running off the road at a high rate of speed with no evidence of braking.
  • Frequently occur on rural roads and highways.

The Washington State Patrol Commercial Vehicle Division is conducting several enforcement operations focused on fatigued driving.

“Fatigue can significantly affect a driver’s alertness, decision-making, attention and reaction time,” the Washington State Patrol said. “The effects of severe fatigue can impair a driver’s ability to safely operate a commercial motor vehicle and can increase the risk of a serious collision. Unlike many roadway hazards, fatigue is preventable when drivers recognize the signs and make the decision to stop driving and get adequate rest.”

These enforcements started on Wednesday, Oct. 7, with future operations scheduled for Oct. 22, Nov. 3, Nov. 24, Dec. 2 and Dec. 15 on Interstate 5 between mile markers 100 and 111 in Thurston County.

Shell Rotella adds new heavy-duty oils

Shell Rotella has announced its upgraded portfolio of heavy-duty engine oils formulated to meet the new API CL-4 and API FB-4 specifications, representing the next evolution in Shell Rotella engine protection.

The portfolio includes enhanced formulations designed to deliver advanced protection against oil breakdown, wear and deposits while supporting the increasingly sophisticated emissions systems found in modern diesel engines.

The new formulations build on Shell’s decades of heavy-duty engine oil expertise and extensive laboratory and real-world testing, with fleet trials totaling millions of miles. Testing exposes the oils to the heat, heavy loads and challenging conditions engines encounter in everyday operation. These demanding operating environments validate the performance, durability and protection of these next-generation Shell Rotella engine oils.

The Shell Rotella API CL-4 portfolio is designed to deliver excellent performance in both older and newer engines, while providing the protection required by the latest low-emission engine technologies, including engines equipped with diesel particulate filters (DPFs).

Shell Rotella API CL-4 and FB-4 heavy-duty engine oils will be introduced starting in early 2027, in conjunction with API first licensing dates. Specific product availability may vary as products are introduced in phases.

The introduction of the new API CL-4 and FB-4 engine oils will also bring enhanced Shell Rotella warranty protection for advanced synthetic blend and full synthetic products.  This reinforces the brand’s confidence in their performance and durability and provides customers with even greater reassurance of protection for the long haul.
