5 phone apps for better diabetes management

1. Diabetes in Check by Everyday Health, Inc.

This app, designed for individual’s diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes, was created by a Certified Diabetes Educator (CDE). Built in to the program is in-app coaching support from a CDE, blood glucose tracking, medication and carb tracking, and more.

The app’s features include a journal, meal planner, recipes, food guides and educational information.

2. mySugr Diabetes Logbook by mySugr GmbH

Designed for Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes, this personal logbook app has a customizable logging screen with quick options for logging blood glucose levels, medications and meals. The app estimates HbA1c, allows users to set goals, offers analysis and offers motivational feedback.

3. OnTrack Diabetes by Medivo

This app includes reminders, tracking, customizable categories and detailed graphs and reports. It supports both United States and international units for glucose and HbA1c.

4. Diabetes Tracker by MyNetDiary Inc. 

The American Journal of Preventative Medicine previously ranked this app as the #1 diet app through an independent study. It is designed for Type 1 diabetes, Type 2 diabetes, pre-diabetes and gestational diabetes.

The app allows users to monitor their caloric intake, view an average for their blood glucose levels, set reminders, get tips and recommendations on food, and log their water intake and weight. There is a virtual coach option that offers personalized advice, plus diet planning tools. The app is Apple Watch compatible.
