The recent presidential election campaign was an expensive proposition, with almost $2 billion raised by candidates ($1.3 billion) and their major supporters. ($594 million by super PACSs). That’s according to the Center for Responsive Politics, which tracks political contributions.

2016-election-moneySome $6.32 million of that amount came from from the trucking industry.

Our colleague James Jaillet writes:

“The total $6.32 million from trucking contributors in 2016 is $1.5 million less than mid-term election donations ($7.87 million) from the industry in 2014 and $3.5 million less than the 2012 presidential election cycle’s $9.98 million. However, it’s a tad more than the $5.9 million given in the 2008 election cycle.”
