Over 56,000 Peterbilts & Kenworths recalled because of lighting problems

A total of 56,575 Peterbilt and Kenworth trucks are being recalled by Paccar for problems with their headlights, brake lights, and turn signals. There also is an issue with the trucks' lift axles.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration recently announced the recall saying, "Delayed and unsteady headlights can result in insufficient illumination of the road, decreasing the driver's visibility and increasing the risk of a crash. In addition, an unexpected position change of the lift axles may increase the risk of injury."

The following Peterbilt trucks are affected by the recall:

  • 520 (2023-26)
  • 535 (2025)
  • 536 (2024-26)
  • 537 (2024-26)
  • 548 (2023-26)
  • 567 (2023-26)
  • 579 (2023-26)
  • 589 (2024-26)

Kenworth trucks covered by the recall include:

  • L770 (2025-26)
  • T180 (2025)
  • T280 (2025-26)
  • T380 (2023-26)
  • T480 (2024-26)
  • T680 (2023-26)
  • T880 (2023-26)
  • W990 (2024-26)

The NHTSA said dealers will update the VCU software, free of charge. 

The manufacturer has not yet provided a schedule for recall notification, according. to the NHTSA. Owners may contact Kenworth's customer service at 1-425-828-5888 and Peterbilt's customer service at 1-940-591-4220. PACCAR's number for this recall is 25PACF.

The NHTSA campaign number is 25V436000.
