As he has with previous tariffs, President Donald Trump is delaying the one on heavy-duty trucks. He's also expanding it.

Set to take effect Oct. 1, Trump has delayed the original tariff announced last month until Nov. 1.

On Sept. 25, Trump said he was imposing a 25% tariff on all “Heavy (Big!) Trucks” made outside the United States. It came as he also announced major tariffs on a variety of goods including kitchen cabinets and bathroom vanities.

In all both instances, he cited the need to protect American manufacturing as a national security issue.

In his post on Truth Social Monday, Trump said, "Beginning November 1st, 2025, all Medium and Heavy Duty Trucks coming into the United States from other Countries will be Tariffed at the Rate of 25%. Thank you for your attention to this matter!"

His previous announcement included only Class 7 and 8 trucks.

In his original Sept. 25 announcement, he said, "Therefore, our Great Large Truck Company Manufacturers, such as Peterbilt, Kenworth, Freightliner, Mack Trucks, and others, will be protected from the onslaught of outside interruptions. We need our Truckers to be financially healthy and strong, for many reasons, but above all else, for National Security purposes!"
