UPS Freight driver wins Georgia grand champion title

Georgia’s trucking grand champion is UPS Freight driver Keith Crook, who earned the highest overall score at the Georgia Truck Driving Championship, May 10-11 in Buford at the Lanier Islands resort complex.

Crook also won first place in the 5-Axle class. Publix’s Justin Durden was named Rookie of the Year. New South Express driver Mark Weeks was named the Georgia Motor Trucking Association’s Driver of the Year during the festivities.

The class winners will advance to the national championship Aug. 14-17 at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

The honored drivers were:

Georgia Driver of the Year: Mark Weeks, New South Express

Georgia Safety Director of the Year: Mike Chupp, Collins Trucking

Grand Champion: Keith Crook, UPS Freight

3-Axle: Roger Nicholson, UPS Freight

4-Axle: Michael Hall, Southeastern Freight Lines

5-Axle: Keith Crook, UPS Freight

Flatbed: Joe Bertini, FedEx Freight

Sleeper: Luke Yoakum, Southeastern Freight Lines

Straight Truck: Marcus Gray, FedEx Freight

Tanker: Marty Mosley, Americold Logistics

Twins: Carlos Rodriguez, Old Dominion Freight Line

Rookie of the Year: Justin Durden, Publix

Pre-Trip Award: Don Carter, FedEx Freight

Written Exam Award: Tim McElwaney, ABF Freight

Large Team Award: UPS Freight

Small Team Award: Southeastern Freight Lines
